A good fleet of monohulls turned out. Road Kill didn't attend as a tree had fallen on their car - thats the best excuse this season !! Frank and Nick did duty standing in for one of the cat sailors - thanks guys !
It was also good to see out new national champion, Dante, back sailing at the club - he had his new 420 on the water.
The usual suspects headed off in the lead from the start with Mr Freeze, Mainiac and Blowflies crossing each other on the first work. Mainiac led round the first mark closely followed by Mr Freeze, Blowflies, Windandsea and Skulker. As seems usual Mr Freeze overtook Mainiac on the reach and had a small lead at the end of the first lap. Blowflies had tried a different approach on the downwind legs and lots a lot of ground. Windandsea closed the gap. Skulker wasn't far behind.
On the next work the breeze changed significantly giving Mr Freeze a huge lead with the rest of the fleet playing catchup for the rest of the race. In the end, Windandsea used their great downwind performance to get line honours in the long course, followed by Mr Freeze and Mainiac. Yardstick results had Mr Freeze first followed by Mainiac and Windandsea.
Skulker kept a good speed in the light conditions although Dante on his new boat currently called "TBA" was gaining on the runs. Skulker took line honours on the short course followed by TBA and Wilful Intent who were having a few problems in the light, shifty conditions. Yardstick results were the same.
Overall pointscore results had Mr Freeze first, Windandsea second and Mainiac third.
Hopefully we don't get too many days like this one for the rest of the season !
