What a difference a week makes - beautiful weather and the boats turn up - although we are still missing a few - where are Dean (505), Rod (470) and Neil (I14) ?? Hopefully they all get back on the water soon.
It was good to see Kian back on the water after an extended break due to a broken wrist - he and Amelia have not forgotten how to sail. A great NE breeze blew - best one I can remember for a while. A couple of the MJs decided to sail the afternoon race which is great - but as the wind picked up the decided to head home - I hope to see them (and others) out more regularly - particularly as junior sailing finishes next weekend. As seems usual now, Pleasure & Pain and Mr Freeze led up the first work closely followed by Mainiac and Blur. Italian Stallions and Wilful Intent were close behind. Prawn Stars was going really well with Jess sailing - unfortunately the capsized on a tack and were playing catchup for the rest of the race. Not sure what happened to blowflies - just as I was leaving they were towed back in with a bent mast. The reaches and runs were fantastic today. By the end of the first lap Mr Freeze had a narrow lead over Mainiac with Pleasure & Pain and Blur close behind. Pleasure & Pain kept catching upwind and losing downwind. The places and gaps stayed very constant until the last work where a trap elastic broke on Pleasure & Pain causing Frank to fall overboard. After retrieval, Blur had just got past. On the short course Italian Stallions and Wilful Intent were both sailing very well. Prawn Stars recovered from their capsize and were having a good time. Mr Freeze beat Mainiac by about a minute with the other Sharpies only a short distance behind. Club Championship results were Mr Freeze first, mainiac second and Pleasure & Pain third on the long course with Italian Stallions first, Wilful Intent second and Prawn Stars third on the short course. Pointscore results were Wilful Intent first, Italian Stallions second and Pleasure & Pain third. A great day had by all - thanks to the duty crew for setting a really great course. |
