Monohull race report 14 December 2013

14/12/2013

The 505s were away at their state titles today but even so we had a good fleet of monos on the water. It was good to see Prawn Stars racing for the first time this season.
The Sharpie fleet had a few crew changed - Glenn sailing forward on mainiac, Amelia on Space Monkeys and Hayden skippering truck with Hayley as sheet hand.
Space Monkeys led from the start and built up a good lead. Spindrift, Garn and Prawn Stars were not far behind the other Sharpies. The lead changed when Space Monkeys couldn't make the bottom mark and then hit it allowing the other boats to catch up. The next lap had very close racing with the four Sharpies very close together. Mainiac led at the top mark - then Pleasure & Pain overtook on the run. On the next work, Truck and Pleasure & Pain went left while Space Monkeys and Mainiac went right. Left turned out to be correct as the breeze shifted for about 10 minutes. Pleasure & Pain went on to win followed by Truck with Mainiac overtaking Space Monkeys on the line.
The short course was keenly contested - Garn had a bit of a lead however Spindrift and Prawn Stars were not far behind. At the finish there was less than a minute separating them.
Two MJs also sailed - hopefully this will continue after their nationals. Emmett and Riley on Red Devils continued their great form leading Dylan and Cormac on Bandit around the course. Red Devils only missed overall line honours by less than a minute.
Pointscore results were Prawn Stars first, Spindrift second and Pleasure & Pain third.

Monohull race report 7 Dec 2013

The forecast for the day was variable 10 knots - so I guess we were lucky that we got a SE-E breeze even though it was quite flukey. I was on starter duty so got a good view of the racing which was interesting.

It was great to see Amelia starting and completing her first race as a skipper on her Laser - and we also had three MJs join in the fun.

Two boats were over at the start - shows how competitive everyone is. Mainiac showed some good speed and led round the first mark followed closely by Truck, The Ribwich, Pleasure & Pain and Blowflies. Truck got through at the wing mark to lead at the end of the first lap followed by Mainiac, Pleasure & Pain, Blowflies and The Ribwich. Mainiac then went the wrong way up the work and lost out badly. Pleasure & Pain started catching Truck but didn't quite get there by the finish. Blowflies was next followed by Mainiac and The Ribwich.

In the MJs the fleet were a little spread out with Red Devils finishing in front of Cruise Missile and 2750.

The pointscore results were very close with Blowflies first, Mainiac second and Pleasure & Pain third. about 5 minutes covered the whole fleet.
