From the start, Mr Freeze lead closely followed by Pleasure & Pain with Blowflies and Southern Cross in hot pursuit. Spindrift pulled out a good lead on Italian Stallions. Red Devils was sailing really well in their second afternoon race. MRE missed the start by a bit and sailed a lap before retiring.
On the last triangle for the long course, and the reach to X for the short course, the lead boats sailed into a hole - which strangely the boats behind followed them into (look around folks !!). This results in the wing mark rounding for the long course having four boats within 2 boat lengths and on the short course, Italian Stallions catching up to Spindrift.
While the short course boats then sailed on to an uneventful finish, the long course boats got becalmed again at the bottom mark. Pleasure and Pain was in front with Southern Cross right next to them until the wind swung again and P&P couldn't make the mark. From there it was weird watching as all the boats were in a totally different wind from each other while still very close together.
The SW squall came through just as the fleet started towards mark X. Mr Freeze had a narrow lead followed by P&P, Southern Cross and Blowflies. Unfortunately the jib halyard let go on P&P and the had to quickly return to the club. In the end, Mr Freeze beat Southern Cross and Blowflies across the line.
Pointscore results were Spindrift first, Red Devils second and Southern Cross third. At this stage I have no idea where Italian Stallions finished as they neglected to sign on !!
