The breeze was a light easterly at the start swinging between NE and SE on occasion. Once again Mr Freeze showed their early season form by picking the work well and leading round the first mark. They were followed by The Ribwich, Mainiac and Pleasure & Pain. I was a race where you could gain and lose heaps on the works which a number of boats did regularly. Southern Cross caught up on the second work by staying well into the northern shore and Pleasure & Pain lost a fair bit. Southern cross is sailing really quickly now - they just need to get away well at the start.
Tiger Moth was going well with Spindrift and Prawn Stars not far behind. Mr E was having their best race so far.
Things changed a bit in the second half of the race when a NE squall came through. Mainiac caught up to Mr Freeze and The Ribwich only to lose the breeze on the way to X. Spindrift, Red Devils and Mr E all had capsizes.
Most of the fleet finished close together across the line. Handicap results were Prawn Star first, The Ribwich second and Tiger Moth third. Red Devils finished a creditable 6th in their first afternoon race - well done boys.
