During the morning the breeze was around 20 knots but it eased a little for the afternoon race - still a great 15+ with occasional stronger gusts.
Frank was still out injured on Please & Pain so Judy stood in again as forward hand with Nick back from HSC on sheet. From the start, Mainiac led with P&P in hot pursuit - they were handling the conditions really well. Wilful Intent was sailing upwind really quickly but overlaid the mark a little. Spindrift and Wilful Intent came in at the same time with Wilful Intent suffering the most - they capsized while giving way and stuck their mast in the mud. Hot Spots were showing that they have really started to master the NS and sailed very consistently - in fact I don't think they had a capsize at all.
P&P was right behind Mainiac still when setting spinnakers for the run on the second lap - unfortunately they managed to get the pole tangled badly and ended up not being able to use the Spinnaker for the rest of the race. Spindrift was sailing really well and Wilful Intent were recovering from their earlier swim.
Line honours went to Spindrift with Mainiac 14 seconds behind. Pointscore results were Mainiac first, Spindrift second and Hot Spots third. There was less than 5 minutes covering second through to fifth.
Thanks must go to the duty crew - they set a really nice course.
Next Saturday is CC3 and the following weekend is the Kembla Klassic - hopefully we get a really good fleet of monos on the water for both.
