Monohull race report 12 Oct 2013

12/10/2013

A good fleet turned up for the resail of the first heat of the Club Championship to be greeted by a fantastic northeaster. A few different boats arrived including both Sam and Rod on their Lasers due to normal crew/boats being unavailable. Daniel and Ben sailed their MG for the first time - the old Skulker now called Garn. We had a B14 which will probably sail going forward as well as most of the normal bunch. Mr Freeze was missing as they sold their boat during the week and Todd was off to Hay picking up the new purchase - a very nice recent boat called Truck.

From the start, Space Monkeys showed great upwind speed to lead around the first mark followed by The Ribwich, Pleasure & Pain and Mainiac. Italian Stallions were showing their great form and were not far behind. Garn had missed the start but came through very quickly. Rush split a gunwale and had to retire.

There were amazing rides on the reaches. Garn had a particular wild gust on the way to the bottom mark and ended up snapping their mast - not a good way to start the season.

The Ribwich was showing excellent form with ring in forward hand Brad - and they swapped the lead with Space Monkeys for most of the race. Pleasure & Pain was really going well only a short distance back with Mainiac close behind. Mainiac swam on a tack when the jib cleated and Pleasure & Pain swam on the last triangle.

Final results saw Italian Stallions take line honours on the short course and The Ribwich beat Space Monkeys by three seconds on the long course followed by Mainiac and Pleasure & Pain.

After discussions with many people on Saturday, at this stage given the broad mix of boats I plan on combining the championship into one overall event in a similar manner to the pointscore. I will also keep results up to date for the separated championship.

Championship results were Italian Stallions first, The Ribwich second and Space Monkeys third.

Pointscore results were the same as for the club championship. The results that have been published do not at this stage take into account people who have sailed different boats - I will be consolidating soon as the points go with the skipper rather than the boat. Sam and Rod are impacted by this in the published results.
