The racing in the afternoon was better than expected - the forecast was for very light breeze but it was actually occasionally gusting as high as 15 knots. We once again had a small fleet with some of our sailors down at Sail Melbourne and others on the harbour in the Rolex series.
Mainiac led away from the start and around the first mark at Primbee with Pleasure & Pain, Space Monkeys and Blue Bandit not far behind. By the time we got to the Kanahooka mark it was very close with all boats rounding nose to tail led by Mainiac. On the very tight reach to Oak Flats, Space Monkeys stayed low and managed to get through the other two Sharpies - with Blue Bandit just snatching the lead by the mark. We then retraced our course back to Primbee with the work across the lake breaking the field up a bit. Pleasure & Pain chose the wrong side and lost out a little.
Space Monkeys led the fleet home narrowly from Mainiac with Blue Bandit just beating Pleasure & Pain across the line.
The round the lake race is always fun with variable wind conditions. This year was probably the best breeze we have had for it for a few years.
Pointscore results were Mainiac first, Space Monkeys second and Pleasure & Pain third.
