The breeze was a nice 10 knot easterly. There were definitely two sides to the work - those who went right picked up a southeast slant and those who went left had more northeast near the shore. I think the consensus was that right worked best !
From the start, Mainiac pulled out a good lead. At the first mark, Mainiac was followed by The Ribwich, Italian Stallions (yes thats the new name for Dante's boat) and the MG fleet all in short order. Nick was sailing their new boat Pleasure & Pain - they missed the start due to unknown technical issues so were a little behind at the first mark. Later in the race they had spinnaker problems so their position is not indicative of the potential.
John and Lachie on Skulker found some speed upwind on the later laps in the race, Wilful Intent wasn't far behind them for the first lap, Prawn Star
put on some pace in the latter stages of the race and Italian Stallions sailed very well in their third race in the new boat.
Dean's normal crew on the 505 wasn't available so he sailed with Erin Curry and one of the other juniors. Erin seemed to handle things very well - her services will be very much in demand in the future ! They were a bit overpowered but still sailed well - electing to do the short course.
The overall handicap results were very close this week. Poseidon continues their improvement and took out first place for the second week in a row - the handicapper is finding it hard keeping up with them !! 20 seconds behind in second place was Mainiac with Prawn Star just beating Skulker and Wilful Intent for third.
The overall season pointscore is very close as well at the moment. Skulker is leading from Wilful Intent by only two points with Poseidon climbing to third only six points further back. Blowflies is another two points back in fourth.
Please remember that heat 6 of the monohull club championship is this coming Saturday 11th Feb.
