Monohull race report 6th December 2014

6/12/2014

Not sure why but there were only four boats in the mono class for heat four of the club championship. Those who turned up had a great day on the water with no sign of the forecast thunderstorms. There were a few crew changes on the Sharpies with Tim defecting to Truck for the day, Jess joining Zoe on Space Monkeys and Frank have a long awaited return to sailing on Pleasure & Pain.

Truck got slightly the best start with Space Monkeys and Mainiac in hot pursuit. P&P decided to go the other side of the work and lost a small amount of ground. Truck led narrowly round the first mark from Space Monkeys. Mainiac was then just in front of P&P - and the two boats had a great reaching battle.

Positions settled down until the last work when Mainiac picked the shifts well and caught Space Monkeys. The run to mark X was long - Space Monkeys stayed east and Mainiac went down the middle. It could have gone either way but in the end Space Monkeys gybed around X about a boat length in front of Mainiac.

Truck led the fleet home by two minutes. Space Monkeys beat Mainiac by sixteen seconds with P&P a futher minute or so back.

Mainiac won the pointscore race comfortably from Truck and Space Monkeys.

Overall a great day on the water with a good course - hopefully we get a better turnout next Saturday.

Please remember that its the monohulls turn to run the canteen next Saturday - so come down bright and early ready to work. You will have time to rig your boat to get out racing in the afternoon.
