TY Delegates Report 14 January 2017:
What a surprise to see three other TYs rigging at the club for today’s race. It was especially nice to see Breakaway lining up with Hayden, Steve, Brad, and Cam aboard and Rosstered Off with Jim, Richard Hipsley, Richard Lech and Brad aboard, returned from their Christmas Holiday break at St Georges Basin. The young and spritely (relatively speaking) crew of Breakaway presented a good challenge for us regulars so we would have to lift our game today to keep up with them.  Serenity with Wayne, Dany and David aboard and Froufrou with Andy and Stephen aboard made up the rest of the TY fleet starting today. Excellent.
Barry Grant and Momentum are continuing to have a rough trot. Barry did his back in during the week and was in no shape to sail this Saturday (am assured it is not shaggers back).
The weather was also shaping up to give us a break with a 10 knot easterly settling in just before our race start time.
Thanks to Kurt and Bruce stepping up to be our duty crew for today. They had their work cut out laying marks as the wind was shifting from North to East prior to the start time. But they bided their time to plan and set a very good course.
With the wind still a little shifty at the start it meant for some tricky manoeuvring on the line with Rosstered Off getting away just behind on a port tack and the remainder of us heading of on a starboard tack. Breakaway made the best of it up the first work rounding just in front of Rosstered Off with Froufrou and Serenity close behind.
By the end of the reach and run legs Rosstered Off just rounded the bottom mark ahead of Breakaway. Things were getting exciting. Anyway, to cut a long story short The works were a little tricky and Breakaway and Froufrou getting a few lucky breaks with Breakaway regaining and keeping the lead to the finish line and Froufrou holding close contact with the bigger boats ahead.
Another great day on the water and hopefully we have many more to come before the end of the season.

TY Delegates Report, 7 January 2017
I mentioned in the most recent TY delegates report that I wish we had a few not so windy conditions to add a little variety to our Saturday afternoon races. Needless to say today’s race was run in a typical summer 20 to 25 knot north easterly breeze.
Thanks to Richard and Alex Hipsley for braving the conditions as our duty crew and setting a good course even though it was tough finding a place on the lake to share with 30 odd 16 ft and 13 ft skiffs sailing their regatta. Boy the skiffs look spectacular downwind though.
Barry Grant and Momentum put in an extra effort to make it to today’s race but unfortunately, just like what has happened to many of us sailing so far this season, the strong conditions show up the weaknesses in our equipment. Today Momentums weakness was a boom fitting that forced her back to shore before the start. That left Serenity with Wayne and Daniel aboard and Froufrou with Alan, Richard (Lech) and me aboard on the start line.
I believe I can speak on behalf of the crews of both vessels; it felt like tough work getting around the course in one piece today. On one of the downwind legs Froufrou thought she would even up crew numbers ejecting Richard overboard on a role windward. We did turn around and pick him up. We also had the pleasure of observing the very effective self inflating nature of Richards’s life jacket. At least both water and wind were warm so it didn’t take Richard long to dry out. It’s all part of the sailing adventure.
Wayne and Daniel were very impressive managing the strong conditions, especially upwind with only two on board Serenity holding the boat down in the gusts.
