TY Delegates Report SIBYC Regatta 1-2 February

TY Delegates Report for 1-2 February 2020, SIBYC Regatta
I was correct wasn’t I.  St Georges Basin and Sussex Inlet Regatta was a wonderful event for those of us lucky enough to have participated.  The slightly extended format with a social race on Friday morning and lawn bowls Friday afternoon before the main weekend event added to the relaxed nature of the regatta. In my opinion the extra day created an opportunity to renew old and make new sailing acquaintances.   Some could even bowl.
Port Kembla Sailing Club was well represented with nine boats filling out a fleet of 30 starters. Obviously this is a very popular event for us. I wish I could duplicate this enthusiasm to participate in our normal club events. Any suggestions let me know.
Saturday’s passage race was run in very hot conditions with a NE breeze kicking in around 15 knots. Enough to make for some good rides and exciting racing. The swim in the beautiful clear Sussex Inlet water at the end of the race made the day even better.
Sundays race was cooled down by an overnight southerly change that settled by race time to again around the 15 knot mark. Perfect sailing conditions really.  All in all we had some very close racing and terrific après  sailing events that rounded off another fantastic Sussex Inlet and Basin Yacht Club Regatta.
Thanks must go to SIBYC for all the work they put in to make it a memorable 30th anniversary event. I am sure we all appreciated the social sausage sizzle and drinks put on in the Fisho’s clubhouse for us by the SIBYC team at the end of each race day.
As is customary the results of Saturdays around the Basin race we use as our PKSC Pointscore 16 event. Our biggest race of the season so far.
Pointscore 16,  St Georges Basin Regatta, 1-2 February 2020

Ninth             Rosstered Off               103.40 (101.48)

This coming weekend is set aside in our calendar for a round of the Manley Junior States so no regular sailing at the club. I am sure if any of you have spare time this weekend it would be appreciated down at the club.
The following Saturday and Sunday 15-16 February we are hosting a round of the Moth State titles that should be very exciting to watch.  However we will still be running an around the lake race starting at our usual time Saturday so please make a space in your weekend to compete. If not, think about helping out either on the water or at the club to make the Moth States better for competitors.
Hope to see you all soon.
Trev.

TY Delegates Report 11 January 2020
I hope you all survived the Bush fire emergency and Christmas and New Year’s events OK. We had great conditions for the first race after the Christmas/New Year’s break, overcast with a 10 knot South to South Easterly wafting through . Quite a few of you may still be away and some of you may have had other commitments. Three TYs turned up, Black Sheep with Derek, Tim, Dave and Danno? (can’t read Derek’s hand writing), Momentum with Barry, Ray, John and Greg aboard and Froufrou with Stephen, Micah and me aboard.
Thanks to Richard Leck and Paul Leaudais for covering the duty boat duties. And what a great course they set, especially in the shifty south to south easterly 10 knot breeze we had as mentioned above.
Great start as well. Unfortunately Black Sheep had a malfunction with her main halyard snapping half way up the first work which put her out of the race. You spend an hour rigging up then less that 5 minutes into the race you have to retire then another hour unrigging. Is sailing worth it? Yes I think it is because you learn something new every time, and its never exactly the same next time.
Momentum lead from that point on but I think suffered by using her self-tacking jib in the dying breeze.
Anyway it only takes two boats to have a race and I think we had a great one today.
Results of Pointscore 14
Position    Boat Name                     PBH (CBH)
First             Froufrou                          81.56 (81.51)
Second       Momentum                     83.31 (83.86)
Third           Black Sheep                    DNF

The end. Trev
