Subject: Race One 2020-2021 Sailing Season, 19 September 2020

Apologies for the lateness in getting the results out. Being retired means you don’t have much free time to do stuff like TY Delegate and race reports.
Great weather for Saturdays first race of the season. The 15 knot Northerly shook out all the cobwebs. And from my perspective, wonderful to see all who participated again after the winter layoff and COVID-19 restrictions.  Big thanks to Barry for preparing our results spread sheet for the coming season.

TY Delegates Report for 15 February 2020

TY Delegates Report 15 February 2020, Around the Lake Race
After a weeks break to help out with the Manly Junior States, today’s race coincided with the NSW Moth State titles hosted by PKSC. It was very exciting for all those old moth sailors (me included) to see a bunch of foiling Moths in the PKSC rigging area. For many of us oldies a Moth was our introduction to sailing and most likely contributed to us catching the sailing bug. Hasn’t there development come a long way in design since the old scow versions, and what intricate and complex machines they are now.
Anyway enough of the reminiscing and on to todays club sailing story. Of note is some changes to crew positions in the four TY’s competing in today’s race. Magella with Jim Curry at the helm and Richard Lech and Pierre as crew and Froufrou with Stephen Sullivan at the helm and Jess, Alan, and Micah as crew. In reference to the other two TYs , Serenity was skippered by Wayne and crewed by Cody and Daniel aboard and Ruby was skippered by Tony Sanderson and crewed by Hugh.
A skin cancer removal from my arm meant I was not sailing today but, as a satisfying concession, I was able to enjoy watching the action from the comfort of the clubhouse.
The very light breeze of not much more than 5 knots meant no sailing for the foiling moths. But it was enough to run the PKSC Around the Lake race, all be it with a delayed start.
Thanks to Rod Nairn and Ray Stanley for being our volunteer duty crew today. They had a lot to contend with to ensure that all boats competing had enough wind to start and finish the race in the very light conditions that persisted till late afternoon. It did make it a long race.
As mentioned, it was great having the opportunity to observe the race from shore, especially in the company of our resident brain surgeons Norm, Bill and Barry.  And, given it was a slow light wind race, you could take time out for a comfort stop, make another cupper or have a wander round and you wouldn’t miss much of the on water action. Most of the boats would be in relatively the same on water positions when you got back to the observation table. The exception to this is when Serenity came from behind in what the other boats called a lucky break. I think she just picked the correct side of the course on the work from Oak Flats to the Windang/Primbee mark making up a lot of ground and rounding just behind Magella for the run back to the x mark and the finish.

Results for Pointscore 17

Position                        Boat Name                         PBH (CBH)
First                                 Serenity                               82.55 (85.54)
Second                           Magella                                82.99 (88.99)
Third                               Ruby                                     83.91 (89.50)
Fourth                            Froufrou                              90.03 (90.03)

Regardless of the finish results it sounded like most of the sailors had another wonderful day on and off the water. How very lucky we are to be in a position to take advantage of this wonderful resource.
Next Saturdays is scheduled for Championship race so I hope as many of you as possible can sail to make it a well-attended event.
Till then, Trev
