TY Delegate Report November 14

TY Delegates Report 14 November 2015

I think it’s fair to say that Saturdays race event was quite interesting.. Three Port Kembla Sailing Club Trailer Yachts, Momentum, Rosstered Off and Frou Frou joined in the Illawarra Yacht Club’s annual Lord Mayor Regatta. Grey Fox wasn’t able to attend today because Digger her skipper was recovering from some minor surgery.  Digger should make a full recovery and be back on the water next week.
Another person who is deserving of our collective sympathy is Wayne McKinnon. Wayne was lined up to sail aboard Frou Frou today but, in the process of launching Frou Frou dislocated one of his fingers. It is sick making just thinking about Wayne’s little finger pointing at an unnatural right angle to his hand. It must have hurt like hell.  Luckily our PKSC orthopaedic surgeon Richard Lech was at hand (no pun intended) and without hesitation was able to reduce Wayne’s finger back in place. That had to be faintingly painful. It will take Wayne some time to recover from his injury so let’s all wish him good thoughts and a speedy recovery.  I hope you get better quickly Wayne and come down to the club so we can tell the story again.
The delayed start and the 10 to 15 Knot Southerly made for and exciting, and from Frou Frou’s perspective, confusing start. Most of the fleet stuck close together around the course with the wind remaining very consistent for the duration of the course.
It goes without saying that the PKSC yachts behaved in a very sportsperson like manner and finished in respectable positions.   Rosstered Off lead the fleet to the finish with Momentum third and Frou Frou Fifth.

Final results extrapolated from the Lord Mayors cup race for Pointscore results are as follows

Boat Name            Position                Time in minutes PBH (CBH)

Rosstered Off           First                       77.24 (75.92)
Frou Frou                 Second                  77.78 (77.78)
Momentum              Third                      79.50 (79.52)

TY Delegates Report 7 November 2015.
Another beautify day to be on the water and we had a good roll up for today’s race.  We welcomed Kurt Griffith back to the TY fleet with his new Eliot 5.9 (called TLC) acquisition. It’s a nice little boat and we were all interested to find out how it would perform in Lake Illawarra waters.
Kurt and crew didn’t disappoint in their first official 5.9 race outing getting off to a good start at the pin end of the line and keeping us honest for the rest of the race.
The starting line ended up being a little crowded with everyone keen to cross on time. Unfortunately Momentum was a little premature and crossing a few seconds early at the boat end of the line.  She showed good sportsmanship by acknowledge the error and taking the appropriate penalty. Frou Frou suffered a little as a result of starting at the crowded boat end of the line falling behind Rosstered of before tacking away on to port to avoid dirty air.
The rest of the race seemed rather uneventful. We sat back on Frou Frou and watched Rosstered Off, then Momentum disappear into the distance and the 5.9 and Grey Fox chomping at our heals just behind us.
Rosstered Off was sailed exceptionally well in today’s conditions finishing the race well ahead of the rest of the fleet.

Results for Championship ,3 Pointscore 6 Champion.

Boat Name     Position    Result CBH (PBH)
Rosstered Off    First            64.51 (65.64)
TLC                   Second       66.92 (66.92)
Momentum       Third          68.54 (68.52)
Frou Frou          Forth         69.38 (69.38)
Grey Fox            Fifth          71.44 (68.65)

Upcoming TY events:
Next Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November the Illawarra Yacht Clubs Lord Mayors Cup Regatta is on and includes one of the rounds of the Southern Zone TY Travellers series events. A number of Port Kembla TY sailors indicated they would be participating in the event. For those yachts who participate we will use your Saturday race results for our Pointscore series.
I look forward to seeing you all Saturday.
