Although we had a good roll up for the junior learn to sail morning it was a quiet afternoon at the club as a result of few conflicting away events this weekend. Three, TYs turned up at PKSC but planned to sail in the Lord Mayors cup at the IYC. I must admit to feeling a little guilty about not supporting Port Kembla sailing on the day. Hopefully we made up for it by eating and drinking lots from the PKSC canteen before and after the race.
Unfortunately Diggers crew did not show up in time, so Grey Fox stayed on dry land. That left Dave Arthur and Keith aboard Offshore Account and, me Peter and Adam aboard Frou Frou to uphold the honour of PKSC. Welcome aboard to Adam. Adam is new to the club and very new to sailing. This was Adams first time on a TY and third time on a sailing boat with two of those times happening today.
The two short triangular course format used for today’s event created interesting and close racing between the Ten or so competitors (should have taken more notice), and the weather, no rain and ten to fifteen knots from the South East, perfect conditions really, just right for taking out Adam for his first TY race.
So how did we do? I am not sure. We didn’t attend the IYC for race results. But from my perspective at least, Offshore Account sailed very well finishing up with the leaders in both races. Frou Frou had issues with her spinnaker halyard so was not able to set a spinnaker which slowed her up on the down wind legs so I don’t imagine we finished in the money.
Results will be posted to me and I will convert them into PKSC TY Pointscore 16 results.
Next Saturday is Pointscore 17. If conditions are anything like last Saturday it will be a sailing day not to miss. Get yourself, boats, and crews organised and join us on the water.
