Happy New Year everyone. Welcome to the second half of the sailing season. A nice gentle start it was too. The very light winds were not to everyone’s taste. Even so all the sailors I spoke with at the post race debrief said they wouldn’t choose to be any other place. We welcome Mark, a new sailor to our club who crewed aboard Serenity today.
Frank and Deno set us a great course for the conditions. As mentioned above the wind was very light and swinging from south to north east. Fortunes were lost and made up the first work with Momentum choosing the best path to round the top mark first. . Conditions were tricky, suiting some boats much more than others. A fair bit of luck was also thrown in, good if you happened to be on the right side of a shift, not so good if you were not, so I don’t really want to write about this stuff anymore.
What I would like to mention is that even though it was overcast and the wind was light and fickle the five TYs who started all finished in good humour. That is very satisfying to see. It was a good day.
First place on CBH was Frou Frou, followed by Momentum second, Out of Exile third, Serenity 4th and Grey Fox 5th.
Changes to the sailing schedule
After consulting with my sailing colleagues it was decided to reschedule next Saturday TY night race to 3rd March. Any objections please get back to me.
St Georges Basin regatta is on 4th and 5th February.
The Illawarra Yacht Club is running an Australia day race starting at 12:30. All classes welcome, and a night race for TY’s 11 February, starting time to be announced at next Saturdays briefing.
The end Trev.
