It was not the most encouraging looking outdoors day when I left home for the sailing club on Saturday morning. With a light rain falling and dark clouds all around conditions didn’t look to promising. However by the time I arrived at the club there were signs that the weather was clearing and we might event end up with a nice afternoon for sailing. All the juniors were out in it so if they were doing it why shouldn’t we I thought.
I must digress a moment here and express my admiration for the junior sailing coaches, Rebecca, Hugh, Brad, Haydon, Todd and all the helping parents (please forgive me if I have forgotten someone). Without their enthusiasm and energy we would not have such a successful program for new young sailors.
When I arrived at the club just after 11 there were already 4 TY’s lined up ready to rig up. What I didn’t know is that only 2 were to brave the afternoon race, the others were preparing for today’s IYC night race. Offshore Account and Rosstered Off were the only 2 intrepid starters in today’s Championship 3 race. To skippers Dave and Jim and their crews, I hope we can improve the numbers of race starters for the remainder of the season to offer some additional competition.
I don’t have any accounts of the afternoons race so can only offer you eager readers the results.
Results for Championship Race 3
First place Rosstered Off and second place Offshore Account.
IYC night race:
The following are words from Jim Curry about the night race hosted by Illawarra Yacht Club.
“Very frustrating night. I felt like a V8 race safety car. Stopped at every buoy and waited for all to catch up. Then breeze would come in again from different direction such that we all carried spinnakers on every leg of the course.”
On behalf of the PKYC competitors I would like to convey our appreciation to Bob Bower for taking the time and energy to organise the night race. Thanks Bob.
