TY delegates report March 29
One of the important things that we can do to ensure the sailing club has a future is to introduce new people to the sailing experience. Admittedly some of the people we provide this opportunity for may not find sailing their cup of tea and never come back for a second go, but at least we introduced them to a new experience they can eliminate from their bucket list. That’s just what happened on this Saturday’s race. Barry Grant had two new crew, Phil and Kim, and John Bubb took out Jarrod Lewis one of our junior sailors. Although I cannot claim a first timer on Frou Frou, we did have aboard Ian Woods. Like most of these retirees Ian is always busy with other activities so can only fit in a couple of sailing days per year. So you could say that each time he turns up to sail it seems like the first time.
Of course all our encouraging may come to nothing. Some of the folks we take aboard may not like it and never come back, but at least we gave them an opportunity to cross another activity off their bucked list.

Needless to say my usual crew have other plans for this coming Saturday (including Ian who is away again) and I have room for at least one extra new crew member for this the final race of the season. Come and see me early if you have someone who is interested.

I should write something about the race I suppose. It was very enjoyable. Even though there were only 4 starters we had some close racing. The brisk 15 to 20 knots southerly made for exciting down wind and reaching legs and we all finished within about seven minutes of each other.
